Amazing grwth of Organic food in Germany:

The as yet provisional data for organic food sales in Germany in 2006 will have to be increased by at least 100 million EUR to 4.6 billion EUR. The “organic boom” in Germany now continues for the third year in succession, which is also especially noteworthy because consumer income has hardly changed in real terms in the last three years. According to ZMP, this shows that German consumers by no means wanted to buy only cheap food, but were prepared to spend 18 % more money on organic food than in the year before.
Shares of organic trade: conventional food retailers 49 %, organic food retailers 23 %, direct marketing 11 %, miscellaneous such as drugstores, mail-order trade, etc. 7 %, butcheries/bakeries 5 %, health food stores 5 %.
The turnover of organic food wholesale companies belonging to BNN grew by 12 % in the first half of 2007.
